This means that the rights required to license the music are controlled from a single source. There is no need to negotiate separately with a record label, publisher, co-writer or other independent rights holder in order to clear the music for an agreed use.

For licensable works, master recording and composition rights can be cleared through one point of contact.

The purpose is simple: to make the licensing process direct, transparent and efficient.

Music licensing normally involves two distinct sets of rights:

Composition rights concern the underlying musical work — the composition itself.

Master rights concern the specific recorded version of that composition.

When these rights are controlled by different parties, a client may need separate permissions before the music can be used.

For the original music offered for licensing here, those rights are controlled from one source.

One-stop clearance does not mean that the music is free to use.

It does not mean royalty-free, copyright-free or public domain.

It does not automatically grant exclusivity, ownership or an unrestricted right to exploit the music.

Every licence is defined by its agreed scope, which may include:

• duration;
• distribution;
• platforms;
• campaign or project;
• exclusivity or non-exclusivity;
• permitted forms of use.

Copyright and ownership remain with the relevant rights holder unless a written agreement expressly provides otherwise.

For audiovisual use — including film, television, documentaries, advertising, branded content, online video and other media — both the composition and the master recording may need to be cleared.

For music identified as one-stop on this website, both sides can be handled through the same source.

This removes one of the most common complications in music clearance: having to locate and negotiate with multiple rights holders before a production can proceed.

Music included in the Library is presented on the basis that the necessary master and composition rights are controlled from a single source and can therefore be cleared directly, subject to the terms of the individual licence.

Availability for licensing does not imply that every type of use will automatically be accepted. Certain requests may be declined where the context, intended use, exclusivity requirements or other conditions are considered inappropriate for the work.

Where a separate commissioned project involves material supplied by a client or another party — including vocals, lyrics, recordings, samples, video, images or other protected content — the rights relating to that material remain subject to their respective ownership and permissions.

The party supplying such material is responsible for ensuring that it can lawfully be used for the agreed project unless a different written arrangement is expressly made.

This does not affect the one-stop status of the original music independently offered for licensing through the One-Stop Library.

Clearance should not begin after a production has already been completed. It should be understood from the beginning.
